La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands (Spain), stands out for its rugged volcanic mountains with numerous trails. At high altitudes, dense fern forests and moss-covered trees grow in the mists of Garajonay National Park. Closer to the coast, the Valle Gran Rey runs through La Calera, a town of whitewashed houses perched on a cliff, and ends at the black sand beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.
